The workshop will be in San Diego, California, USA, on 26 and 27 September 2018.

The subject is the user interaction and usability of privacy and security: How can users make sense of the different permission systems, the privacy policies and security features of Web sites and applications? The interfaces may vary between devices, and may depend on hardware capabilities. In the Web of Things, personal data may be processed by devices that do not even have a display. Web sites and application may delegate functions to third parties, use different terminologies, or be subject to different regulations.

The goal of the workshop is to see if there is need for, and possibility of, standard interfaces (APIs) across platforms and devices.

Earlier W3C workshops on related themes include the workshop on trust and permissions for Web applications (Paris, 2014), and the workshop on data privacy controls and vocabularies (Vienna, April 2018), which was organized for W3C by SPECIAL.
